Ready to run, straight out of the box

The Suchiyu SCY 16103 Gantry is a 1/16 scale cross-country truck that arrives fully built. The battery, USB charger and 2.4GHz controller are all included, so it is charged and running in minutes — no kit building, no soldering and nothing extra to buy.

38 km/h, and the control to use it

An RC390 carbon-brush motor with a strong magnet and a heatsink pushes this truck to 38 km/h. The 30A speed controller is stepless with a brake, so the throttle behaves like a real car rather than an on/off toy switch, and the steering is fully proportional — turn the wheel a little and the truck turns a little.

Power system and lighting

Fourteen high-brightness LEDs light the front of the truck, with three modes on a button: always on, slow flash and fast flash. Enough to keep running after dark and still see where the truck is at the far end of a field.

What is underneath

Power reaches all four wheels all of the time, through front and rear nylon planetary gear differentials so the inside and outside wheels can turn at different speeds through a corner instead of scrubbing. Sixteen ball bearings carry the drivetrain, the transmission shaft, wheel hexes and chassis plate are metal, and every corner has double-wishbone independent suspension on a coil-over shock. It will pull up slopes of more than 45°.

The controller

A gun-style 2.4GHz transmitter with a comfortable grip, trims for steering and speed, a reverse switch and a button for the lights. Range is over 80 metres, and because it is 2.4GHz several of these cars can run at the same time without interfering with each other.

Splash-proof, not swim-proof

The electronics are sealed to IPX4, so wet grass, puddles and light rain are fine. It is not a submarine — do not drive it into a pond, and dry it off after a wet run.

Good to know

• The transmitter needs 3 AA batteries, which are not included
• A full charge takes 3 — 3.5 hours and gives 15–20 minutes of running
• A spare battery is the best first upgrade — it doubles your playing time
• Recommended for ages 14 and up, or younger with an adult supervising
